So I just got done watching the NOOMA entitled “Store” (#16). Here is a mini-review/synopsis.

Bell opens up the video with a short summary of why we get angry. Most of the time it is because our expectations are not met or our feelings get hurt, but no matter what, it is an emotional thing. The thing about is it that it only matters what you do with it. Do you act justly or selfishly? He gos on to talk about in Mark 3 when Jesus gets angry at the Pharisees for telling him not heal a man on the Sabbath. The greek form of the word anger in this passage is a temporary form. So it comes upon Jesus and then it leaves him. Some things are worth getting angry about. Like injustices. God is love and when a human being is abused or taken advantage of there is going to be a divine anger that identifies with this person. So Jesus tells the man to stretch out his crippled hand and he is healed. Jesus did something about his anger to make a difference.

We live in a world in which people get angry about things that do not matter and people don’t get angry about things that do matter. “Some people are looking for a fight, because they aren’t in one.” When you find away to figure out what makes you angry and fix it, that is another way to model ourselves after Jesus. By changing the things that make us angry; the things that we wonder why God let’s them happen. We go out and we channel our anger into change. Just like Jesus did.

So today was the first service at Pasyor Kelly Lyon’s church, Epic Remix. Yeah, the name is kinda gay with the addition of the word ‘remix’… if it was only “Epic” that’d be rather epic, but now its kinda…meh. So the name Epic comes from the fact that the Bible is an epic story and the part Remix comes from the fact that Pastor Kelly plans to look at the Bible in a new way. Not in some crazy hippie way, but in a way that it can be used to change the world (as is was intended to be). The service was pretty good for an inaugural service. It opened up with two scripture readings; Ephesians 3:2-10 and Exodus 3. And then we did some worshipping and then Pastor Kelly gave his vision for the church and gave a small message. The gist of the message was that when people cry out, God responds in some way shape or form and the body of Epic wants to be a means for God’s response. I really enjoy the fact that the whole goal of the church is be a body of doers, rather than to be a body of sitters and talkers. The church is pretty sweet overall. I really like how Kelly said that not everyone is going to agree with everything and that is ok. It is ok to ask tough questions. It is ok to have honest conversations. Its ok to be real.

They are planning on giving away 75% of what they are given to various ministries around the globe. They have already given LoveBags $1000 for their Thanksgiving event *that has yet to be determined.*

He also quoted Bell and Miller a few times, which was pretty cool and expected.

Here is a small glimpse of the books he quoted and recommended *all of which I own*

That made me smile.

So basically it seems like it is going to be a really nice church to be going to (in addition to the occasional and likely Calvary visits).

And pretty much all of the candidates have one thing that each of them refer to when talking about every issue in order to look good or appeal to a weird demographic (like Kerry’s Purple Hearts 4 years ago).

Mitt Romney = Winter Olympics

Giuliani = 9/11 (even though I don’t think he mentioned it last night, he will tomorrow)

Paul = Liberty

McCain = POW/Veteran

Hunter = WTF is Hunter?

Tancredo = Immigration

Huckabee = has no shot, but is still pretty smart

Thompson = wants to be the next Regan

So most of you know that I love to take pictures and I have recently become a follower of big fan of the ‘lomography’ style of photography. Lomography emphasizes casual, snapshot photography. Characteristics such as over-saturated colors, off-kilter exposure, blurring, “happy accidents,” and alternative film processing are often considered part of the “Lomographic Technique.” (more…)
